Showing Up For Yourself Is Half The Battle

Showing up for yourself is half the battle, but these days it’s easier than it’s ever been to “show up”…

A few days a week at 5:30am, a couple of us meet at the gym and hit cardio circuit workouts together (I have never done this much cardio in my life..lol.. but more about that another time)…

Sometimes one of the guys has to travel for work, but he has a specific goal right now and didn’t want to miss any workouts this week so he said… “Can you write me something to do?” ….

..and one of us replied (I can’t remember who since it was right after a cardio workout and I was trying to breath..lol)…

“Why don’t we just pop you in virtually?” …. GREAT IDEA!

Now, not only will he have a workout to do, he will also have the accountability to make sure he shows up for himself and gets it done before he starts his day and has to hit the road to travel back….

He put in his headphones, opened up his phone and streamed into the workout… I was able to show him what we were doing, plus he could be in the conversation between sets and jam out with us as we cranked up the music during our sets.

You might not want to stream into a workout and that’s ok – I am not saying it’s for everyone or that you should be doing that every time…

… but what I am saying is this…

It’s hard enough to be on a journey to improve yourself, physical change is hard because more than half the time we are fighting a mental battle before we even get started on the physical battle…

…. and too many times we lose the mental battle….

If you want or need the accountability, but you can’t get to the gym – show up for yourself by streaming in…

It might not be quite as fun, or quite as energizing, or even quite as tough (or it might be tougher) ….. BUT..

.. the important thing is that you show up…

because when you win the mental battle of showing up…. the physical battle gets easier…

How to show up for yourself:
1 – Make it specific on the schedule
2 – Give yourself plenty of time
3 – When you don’t want to…say, “I can and I will” at least 10x
4 – Ask someone to make sure you follow through
5 – Repeat
